Although it’s still a month away, the Chicago Blackhawks made some changes to their 2024 NHL Draft selection on Friday afternoon.

They traded with the New York Islanders, acquiring the No. 18 and No. 50 overall picks in exchange for picks No. 20, No. 54 and No. 61 overall.

Both picks traded by the Blackhawks were ones they obtained through previous trades. The No. 54 pick was originally acquired when the Blackhawks sent Brandon Hagel to the Tampa Bay Lighting in exchange for this pick, players Taylor Raddysh and Boris Katchouk, and a 2023 first-round pick (Oliver Moore). The No. 61 pick was acquired along with Jason Dickinson from the Vancouver Canucks in October 2022 in exchange for Riley Stillman.

This trade moves Chicago up two spots in the first-round and four spots in the second-round — in regards to their second pick in each of those rounds — and leaves the team with eight picks in the 2024 draft:

  1. No. 2 (first-round)
  2. No. 18 (first-round)
  3. No. 34 (second-round)
  4. No. 50 (second-round)
  5. No. 67 (third-round)
  6. No. 72 (third-round) — Acquired from Ottawa Senators in Alex DeBrincat trade in July 2022
  7. No. 138 (fifth-round) — Acquired from Calgary Flames in Ryan Carpenter trade in March 2022
  8. No. 163 (sixth-round)
