With its initial pick on the second day of the 2024 NHL Draft, the Chicago Blackhawks added forward John Mustard with a third-round selection (67th overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Mustard, who won’t turn 18 until August, is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound left wing who spent last season playing with the USHL’s Waterloo Black Hawks.

Mustard skated in 60 games for Waterloo last season, tallying 56 points (29 G, 27 A) during the regular season before going without a point in a pair of postseason games. Next season, he’ll be skating at Providence College.

Here’s a quick scouting report on Mustard from Elite Prospects:

“Mustard does everything at full speed. A quick burst of crossovers is often all he needs to burst by opponents, usually set up with a fake in the opposite direction and a powerful weight shift. After he beats the defence, he rolls on his outside side, curls the puck around a stick, and fires a powerful wrister. When heā€™s not rushing the puck, Mustardā€™s hunting in the offensive zone for open space.”
